May 5th, 2007 - Opening Blog

I will try to add some interesting areas that we have travelled to. Also will endeavor to add photos that we have taken along the way.
To start:
We (My wife & I) retired from active work in the summer of 2000. We had a few things to do so did not get much long term travelling in until our first trip to the states in the fall of 2002. We had a 1992 Dutchman trailer and a Dodge pickup. Not knowing whether we would like this lifestyle we didn't want to purchase a newer unit then decide this wasn't for us. We had camped and travelled some but never a long distance from home, nor as far from home via a traveling unit for such a long time. We were gone the first year almost 6 months returning home in April of 2003. We liked it so much that we purchased a membership in a park system that we felt comfortable with. People that we met in this park system are friends and we see each other each winter as we venture south. Some of them have ventured north to our part of the world and experienced new found adventures of there own. Throughout the year we either talk to them on the phone or keep in contact via emails on the internet.
In the summer of 2003 we sold the truck and trailer and bought a 1993 Winnebago Vectra 37' gas powered motorhome as we found out we liked travelling. We also thought that it would be easier to set up & tear down our camping site easier that with a truck & trailer. This we found out to be a fascinating way to travel and see the country.
We travelled to ElGolfo, Mexico in the spring of 2004 as this was one of the parks that were in our park system. Had a great time there and have many good memories along with meeting more nice people. Again in the fall of 2004 we travelled to Arizona and to ElGolfo and spent the winter and spring of 2005 in the park system.
In 2006 we found that we really enjoyed this lifesyle. At home in Kamloops, BC for 6 months and away in the south for the other 6 months. So, we decided to upgrade our travelling unit, and traded in the Winnebago for a 2002 DutchStar diesel pusher with 2 slides. We wanted a little more room (or should I say, I wanted more room) and we have found out that with a slide you are more comfortable and more space to move around in. To each there own, as they say. We arrived home in Kamloops in April 2007.
