Friday & it's Karaoke Night!!!

We start off with a picture of another sunset here at Emerald Cove. When there are a few clouds in the sky, it is just awesome to view.

As the evening wears on, we go & have supper in the clubhouse. During the supper hour Dave the Karaoke Man plays dinner music. After supper and at 7 pm karaoke starts.

Dave plays good music!

But before we go to the clubhouse for supper we stop at friends for a visit as they have come for the weekend. Here is Larry. Need I say more?????

At karaoke we have many friends that sing. Here are but a few of them.

Thanksgiving Day!

We woke up to lakefront property on Thanksgiving Day! Rain .... did it rain during the night. Every time we woke up it was raining and seemed to be harder coming down than when we woke earlier. Finally about 7 am it stopped and the sun has begun to shine through the clouds.

Lakefront property!

Tell me of a kid that doesn't like a mud puddle?

This one lost his shoe in the puddle!

Hot Air Balloons & Fireworks

Hot Air Balloons on field

Hot Air Balloons lit up

Fireworks after balloons deflated

Another fireworks display

On our last night in Yuma we went with friends Bob & Darleen to the Ray Kroc Baseball field to see a display of Hot Air Balloons. Impressive and about every 2 minutes the announcer would signal all the balloonist to fire the balloon. After it got dark this was a beautiful site to see. After the balloonist had deflated there balloons and put them away we were given a display of fireworks. Of course the camera can't do them justice but we were impressed. After leaving the field we went to the 95 Highway road cafe for supper. It was asian/chinese cuisine...we were happy and well fed.

Yuma, AZ

Entrance to resort

Our rig parked in resort

We arrived at Suni-Sands RV Resort on Sunday the 16th of Nov. We will be here a week then return to the CRA resort in Earp, CA. We are in the overflow parking area in the park and this is fine with us as we are here mainly to go to Algodones, MX to see the dentist, get some new glasses, and visit the pharmacy. We know that we can do all these things at home and are covered by our medical, BUT, it is still cheaper in Mexico. Also with the proper receipt we are reimbursed by the extended coverage we have on our medical. Plus we get to go to the fish and shrimp taco cafe for lunch, which is always a highlight.
We are across the road from the Yuma International Airport which is also home to the NAVY aircraft. they start about 8 am in the morning on training missions and are going till about 10 pm at night. They are intermittent during the day. Noisy at times. I will try and get a photo of one of the jets as they roar overhead. Unfortunately wasn't able to get photo....maybe next time!
It has been a busy week shopping and visiting friends. We were out for supper every night this past week. Two days we spent time in Algodones. Wednesday evening spent with Damon and his wife Fran. He has a vast knowledge in computers and in karaoke, thus he is a great resource one must take advantage of. Thursday and Friday evenings we were at the Pioneer RV Resort in Wellton, which is about 30 miles east of Yuma. Thursday was a get together at Larry and Jeannette's place with Chris & Loretta, Bob & Cathy, Al & Dee, & ourselves. Great evening. Friday night was karaoke at the rec hall.
The temperature here has been in the mid 80's with temp also reaching the low 90's during the day. Gorgeous, we say and love it.

Farewell for now & a Windshield Repair

Don & Pat Hoey

Do we need to say more!

On their way!

Ya know that it is always sad to see friends leave, but we know that we will see them again soon. We are planning on seeing them when we all get together again in El Golfo, MX in the New Year. On one road trip into town Don & I saw a tarantula on the roadway. We stopped and looked at it, but you guessed it, no camera. One of our friend had one under her motorhome this past week and it looked much liked the one we saw on the road.

Windshield Repair

Jim's Mobile Windshield Repair

Inside Motorhome fixing chip

Jim hard at work fixing chip!

On our trip from home this year we picked up a bruise/chip on the passenger windshield. Jim has repaired a few of these chips for us in the past. He repaired a couple on this motorhome last year and repaired a chip on our last motorhome. Jim is a member of CRA and travels here for the winter season. During the summer he lives at the Hart Ranch in South Dakota. We stopped there last fall on our trip east and visited with him there. It just seems that we can't get here without picking up a stone chip in our windshields. When we got home from our last trip this past spring we had the windshield replaced on the drivers side because of a really big bruise, the size of a baseball. Hopefully this is the last!

Anniversary & Birthday Night ( Nov 12th)

Pat, Don, Marcel, Doris, Marge, Burt

Technically we are in Earp, California, but there is little here but RV resorts, along the Colorado River, a US post office and a convenience store. This evening we go to Big River, CA which is approx. a 20 minute drive from our RV resort. We have gone there to go to the Dumas Walker Restaurant and Bar for supper and to celebrate Don & Pats anniversary(14th) today and Don's birthday tomorrow. When we arrive the food special is Spagetti & meat sauce/meatballs. Don & I have that, the rest of our group order from the menu. All round we would recommend this to eat and to enjoy an evening. The others in our party are Don's wife Pat, Marcel & Doris, and my wife Marge. We are also treated to karaoke as entertainment. Marcel sang a couple of numbers and does well.
This morning Don, Pat, Marge & I went to Parker, AZ to do some grocery shopping. From our park it is at most a 15 minute drive across the Colorado River Bridge to Parker. The river is the dividing line between CA & AZ
Todays weather was another great day with the temperature in the mid 70's. Sunny, sunny, and sunny.

Are We Having Fun Yet?

And the answer to that question is YES !!

And for lunch we go to the Roadrunner Cafe. Here is Dave, Donna, Marge
Pat & Don on the Pontoon. On the other pontoon were Marcel, Doris, Burt,
Elaine, Jim & Bob.

We take off Saturday morning in two pontoons on the Colorado River(called the Parker Strip) and head for the La Paz County Swap/Flea Market. By boat from camp we are about a 20-25 minute run. By road from Parker you travel north on AZ 95 and is about 8 miles. This market takes place every Saturday from the middle of October to the middle of the following April. Here you can buy leather belts, purchase reverse osmossis systems. gadgets for the fisherman, items for the kitchen, tools for the handyman, signal finders & telephone signal antennae and other assorted items of every colour and description. A good meeting place for everyone to socialize and to find that special item we all need, want or dream about. We also found a dash mat to put in the car, to cut down on the sun beating on the dash. Reasonable price too!! After cruising around the market we get back on the pontoons and head for the Roadrunner Cafe. This is a tradition now. At the cafe we can either have breakfast or lunch. I had breakfast, chicken fried steak smothered in country sausage gravy, two fried eggs, toast, hashbrowns and coffee. Marge had chicken strips, hold the fries. Once we had all consummed our meal we get back on the pontoons and leisurely cruise back to the camp where we all have our units. This is living and we are having fun!! We left camp shortly after 9 am and returned around 1:30 pm.

Temperature today is a nice 82 degrees Fahrenheit

Rough life we have. We left Kamloops on Oct 31st headed for this location. We left around 3:30 pm and fueled up in Princeton, BC . A quick stop at the Canada/US border and we are on our way. We stop at a WalMart in Omak WA and spent our first night there. The next day is overcast with rain, that is intermittent. We drove to Stanfield Oregon and fueled up there. We proceeded on and stopped for our third fuel stop in Wells, NV. We finally stopped as we were tired and stayed in a gravel pit along with several truckers and other RVers at the intersection of Hwy 93 and Alt Hwy 93. That night it poured rain and was very windy. In the morning the wind had subsided but the rain did not. The rain was very hard at times and other times it was light. We proceeded on and we ran through snow going through Ely, NV at the 6500 ft level. Driving through Humbolt National Forest we experienced snow, sleet, slush, lightning, thunder, hail and rain and more rain. Several vehicles were off the road due to the snow & slush on the road through the National Park. We slowed down to about 25 mph during this section, and at one point pulled over to let the traffic built up behind us pass. They were in a greater hurry than we were! We were determined to get to Emerald Cove and we pulled into the park around 7 pm. Upon our arrival, Marcel & Doris(from Minnesota), Don & Pat(from Saskatchewan) have the lights on and we are greeted enthusiastically. We spend a couple hours catching up on news and a couple of drinks. Glad to be here!!!!!

Today is a cleanup day. Wash the car....... absolutely filthy ......... You couldn't even see out of the windshield it was that dirty. Marge & I tackled this job with her doing more than I. I concentrated on getting out the internet, wash the front of the motorhome, put the covers on the windows etc. This afternoon we pile onto the pontoon and head for the Roadrunner Cafe. They are serving beef taco's for a special. 6 for $5.00, can't beat that deal. The pics above are of our trip to the cafe and on the way back we see burros that have come to the river for a drink.
We definitely will have more fun tomorrow.

Just a sidenote. Marge did a calculation of the fuel prices paid on our way down this trip and one that was done 2 years ago. Conclusion.... we spent $40.00 more this trip..... who would of thunk it
