33rd Annual Pioneer Day

"Gateway to Sun & Sand"

We were treated to a very good parade. The day was overcast and cool, and got seemingly cooler throughout the parade, but this did not dampen any spirits. The parade started at 10 am and was well over an hour long. As the floats went by there were many handfuls of candy passed to the spectators along the route. There were the local police, fire and ambulance along with the sheriff from the county. The Border Patrols presence was also there as they have a station and headquarters in the town. The mayor and council were also represented in the parade. Many local organizations were represented along with many from the adjoining community. We had car clubs, motorcycle clubs, older models of farm equipment, girl scouts, boy scouts, 4H clubs, the Shriners organization from Yuma. What would a parade be without a marching band. There was the Yuma District Elementary Band with at least 100 kids all playing an instrument. Many, many participants in the parade. I will mention here that the RV park we stay in - Pioneer RV Park - has a very dedicated group of volunteers and the float they entered was awarded 1st place for the 3rd consecutive year.

They played very well and got a good hand clapping when done!

After the parade had ended we went up to the Community Park and were entertained by some local entertainers. Also there were many vendors selling food and drink. All in all we had a very fun day and the organizing committee put on a very impressive parade. A job well done.
