ElGolfo, Mexico

This photo is of a sunset looking west from the campsite. This was taken in March of 2007. Across is the Baja of Mexico.

I am just beginning this blog as we have returned from the south after spending a winter there. I will include some photos of while we were in El Golfo Mexico. (later for photos) We spent two different time frames there, once during the month of December 2006 and again from the middle of February 2007 to the end of March. El Golfo is a small town approximately 110 km south of the border town of San Luis, Mexico. This town is about 50 km south of Yuma. El Golfo has a population of about 5000 and the industry is fishing. When fishing is good the towns people are very busy from morning to nightfall. They use a boat called a panga and they can load this up with about 3000 lbs of fish, on a good day and then come back to town. They do not have a boat dock like we do in Canada or the United States but rather a low slung trailer that that they back into the Sea of Cortez(ocean) and the boats powers forward and the trailer backs up and this loading takes all of 30 seconds. Thus on board the trailer and gone to either the fish packing plant or to a local fish market where the fish are cleaned & some fillited for sale locally. Most gets transported to Puerto Penasco or to San Luis.
